Aldoized Folding Roof System Licensed to Icology Group

June 2010

Aldoized Triangular Building Systems of Canterbury, NH, (http://www.aldoized.com/) has licensed its new folding roof frame technology to the Icology Group of La Jolla, CA, according to Aldoized President Albert A. Aldo. The triangle-based hip roofs offer exceptional strength for use in high-wind regions. The Icology Group produces disaster relief shelters and affordable housing, as well as Profile LumberTM and I WOOD® technologies. The resulting buildings combine strength with compactness to create a high quality, mass production structure that minimizes shipping costs. Assembly requires no previous construction knowledge, making them extremely volunteer friendly and ideal for rapid deployment into disaster zones.

Icology’s I RADTM Rapid Assembly Dwelling, replete with the Aldoized Folding Roof, was first introduced at the UN Millennium Hotel in New York City on March 31st 2010 to coincide with the United Nations hosted International Donor Conference for Haiti. Two transitional shelters were on display for government representatives, aid agencies, relief organizations and the general public to see. Both units were subsequently deployed to Haiti.

The specially treated 128 square foot wooden dwellings weigh less than 1800 lbs and 20 units can be flat-packed into a 40 ft shipping container. Four people can assemble a complete 8x16 foot shelter in less than a day using only the tool kit provided. When correctly assembled, the shelters have a two-year plus lifetime that can be extended by adding locally available materials, such as shingles and stucco.

The Icology Group is working with the San Diego Haitian Ministry to ship a container load of buildings to Haiti. Anyone wishing to help can contact Jacky Vel at the Icology Group (760) 402-1696 or email: info@icologygroup.com

Aldo spent much of the past year working hand-in-hand with Icology co-founder Chris Scott perfecting and streamlining the triangle-based building systems to make them cost-effective and user-friendly. The new folding roof system is ideal for shed and gazebo companies, companies that sell building kits, builders and do-it-yourself handymen. Triangular roof frames make very attractive displays for trade shows, home and garden centers, and shopping plazas.
